Artist Statement

I am exploring the fragile boundaries between beauty and brutality, empathy and indifference. Drawing from my experiences in psychiatry and digital creation, I construct poetic yet unsettling 3D-worlds that reveal the vulnerability of the human condition — seductive at first glance, disturbing upon reflection.

Vita

Anja Nolte is an artist, author, and illustrator. Trained in Hamburg as a psychiatric nurse, she later studied classical painting and drawing in the tradition of the old masters. After working in animation, she became a freelance artist and illustrator for institutions such as the Museum für Kommunikation, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, and clients like Microsoft and Adobe. The activists advocate for greater visibility of women artists* within the art world. They demand a quota — and thus equality — across all areas of contemporary art, as well as a revaluation of historical positions of female artistic practice.

The time has come. For a protest as diverse as we are. As visible as the problems themselves. A necessary response to the never-ending wars waged by autocrats who, in unison, disregard dissenters, human rights, international law, and freedom of expression and the press — who deny the climate catastrophe, exploit people and nature, and accumulate unimaginable wealth. All of this goes hand in hand with the growing threat, impoverishment, and discrimination of women* in all their diversity. It is time for a powerful, united ENOUGH!
